About the talk
Although head-mounted displays remain the dominant interface for VR and AR, their reliance on wearable devices may limit widespread adoption. To enable immersive visual experiences that multiple people can share simultaneously with the naked eye, the presenter has investigated wide-area, low-latency display technologies. These include VarioLight, a high-speed projection-mapping system for moving objects; BrickDisplay, which creates large mid-air imagery from spatially separated LCD monitors using perceptual illusions; and digital-signage systems that influence experiences and behavior in public spaces.
By leveraging the human visual system's sensitivity to latency and its ability to compensate for missing spatial information, the presenter has designed complete systems spanning optics, hardware, high-speed image processing, and computer graphics. This interdisciplinary approach has produced spatial visual information systems that can be naturally integrated into everyday environments.
