Despite decades of video conferencing research, current remote collaborative
systems still cannot provide the same experience as face-to-face collaboration.
This presentation provides an overview of the use of
XR
to enhance remote collaboration. This includes providing
spatial cues,
non-verbal gaze and gesture cues,
and other techniques. Recent work in
Empathic Computing
and the use of
AI with XR
will also be presented. Finally, important research directions for future work
will be outlined.
